WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE (PCRC)



PCRC is an establishment of the Nigeria Police. It was established on 8th May, 1984 by the late IGP ETIM INYANG of the blessed memory. PCRC is structured towards Police formation. It has the recognition of the MINISTRY OF THE POLICE AFFAIRS as well as THE POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION.

Any credible Nigerian within and outside the country can be a member of THE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE (PCRC). PCRC is a voluntary organisation that doesn't get funding from government. It is a self-funding organisation. Achievements of any arm of it depends on the contributions of his/her members.

There are so many things that PCRC does with members' contributions. It is on record that PCRC has achieved remarkably well in NIGERIA that has earned it encomiums from the Nigeria Police, The Ministry of Police Affairs, The Police Service Commission, The POWA, The Press and Members of the Public.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PCRC.

ARTICLE 3: The name of the association shall be known and preferred to as the POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE (PCRC)

ARTICLE 4: MOTTO: SERVICE TO THE NATION AND HUMANITY

ARTICLE 5: AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
5.1    To partner with the Nigeria police so as to enhance cordial        relationship that will be in the overall interest of the Police and the general public in crime prevention.
5.2 To assist the Nigeria Police in combating crimes through           intelligence information gathering on criminal and criminal activities within the neighbourhood as well as offering logistic assistance and problem-solving discussions.

5.3 To periodically organize Seminars, Conferences, Workshops etc that will empower its Members on crime prevention, strategies and intelligence information gathering.
5.4 To duty and legally establish means of raising funds so as to meet its financial obligations and commitments to crime prevention.

5.5 To support and subscribe to any Public Institution, Clubs, Association, etc, which may be of immense benefits to the PCRC or individual Members provided that such institutions have no political, religious or ethnic motives.
5.6 To scout for and encourage qualified Members of the Community to seek for a career in the Nigeria police.

5.7 To provide a forum through which members of the community and Police can discuss how to arrange and supervise common volunteer Corps or Vigilante Groups.

5.8 To identify anything in whatever form or shape that may cause Police/public friction and to appraise the situation and suggest ways or means to remedy same.

5.9 To actively participate in all Nigeria police programmes that have direct bearing to community policing and shall render all assistance in the overall interest of safety and security of lives and properties.

6.0 To constantly liaise with stakeholders (i.e Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, Police Service Commission the Nigeria Police) for general police direction, guidance and assistance in order to provide quality service of a safe neighborhood.

Having satisfactorily dwelt on the aims and objectives of the PCRC below are some of the highlights of what PCRC stands for and does which include but not limited to: 

- Giving Assistance to the Police in times of their needs and as when due.
- Organising of Capacity Building Seminar and Workshops from time to time. Giving relief materials to them as a sort of motivation, buying communication gadgets for them, building of office structures, sponsoring of various Programmes,  empowerment of Police widows, facilitating sinking of boreholes, regular repairs of patrol vehicles and purchase of new ones.

- Giving awards to deserving Police Officers with cash support.

- Motivating the Police school pupils with educational gift items.

The numbers of PCRC achievements are numerous. With the few of the highlighted achievements, we want you to know that we would continue to do it together.

By these, PCRC is an organisation one will continue to help and assist without limit. Anything we do as members of the PCRC is to complement the tasking work of the Police.

Policing our community is the joint responsibility of the Police and members of the community.
