The Ogun State Police Command earlier today engaged the PCRC formations in the State to help dissuade Ogun State citizens from participating in any form of protest that may lead to violence or criminal acts.
The Police Commissioner reiterated
the right of citizens to peaceful protests, but entertained the fear of the
peaceful protest from being hijacked by disgruntled elements with the aim of
unleashing mayhem on the society.
He appreciated the ability of the entire PCRC formations to permeate various commands, and ensure a safe environment. According to him, the country has still not come out of the consequences of the 2020 ENDSARS PROTESTS , which claimed several casualties.
To avoid a repeat of the last crisis, he urged PCRC members to engage their communities, individually & collectively at avoiding any violent protest at this point in time. CP Alamutu promised that a joint Police/PCRC security situation room will be set up, while swift response telephone lines will be deployed for timely updates.
In the words of the State PCRC Chairman, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola (JP), he assured the police high command, of the PCRC readiness at providing intelligence reports/updates to the Police as events unfold.
He assured the commissioner of Police, the readiness of PCRC members at protecting public infrastructures from being destroyed during the protest. Having assured the Police, he charged State Excos, Area Command Excos, Divisional Excos & Unit Coordinators to do everything humanly possible to avert the protests & where they hold, ensure there is no destruction.
After the parley with the Police authorities, Ven. Popoola engaged PCRC members from various formations to dialogue with potential trouble makers in their communities & enlighten them on the dangers in public infrastructure destruction.
He charged all Area Command & Divisional
Chairmen to provide up to date reports on situations in their various areas,
which will be ultimately transmitted to police authorities. The Police
authorities had earlier engaged community leaders and traditional rulers in a
partnership scheme, ultimately to avoid violent protests being championed by
some activists.
PCRC leaders from various formations throughout all the area commands in the state, led by the state chairman, Ven. Samson Popoola attended the parley. All the 13 Area Commands were adequately represented as well as the State Youth Committee and Traffic and Crowd Control Marshalls.
PCRC!!! Service to the Nation and Humanity.
